How openness is protected by math and tools
1. Append-only SHA-256 record chain
Every public action produces a canonical JSON payload and SHA-256 digest that includes the chain digest of the previous entry. Any later tampering, deletion or reordering invalidates every subsequent digest.
2. External Bitcoin anchoring via OpenTimestamps
The site’s chain head digest is regularly anchored to the Bitcoin blockchain through OpenTimestamps. Once a block is confirmed, anyone can verify against public block headers that the record existed before that block’s timestamp.
3. Full open mirror and forkability
All public works, versions, attachment metadata, comments, AI analysis reports and the record chain can be exported in full through a single endpoint. Even if this site goes offline, any researcher or institution can rebuild and continue running from a mirror locally.
Verify offline in one minute
The public protocol repository provides a zero-dependency Python 3 standard-library verification script — no third-party packages and no account required:
git clone https://github.com/magicknight/eksmu-protocol.git cd eksmu-protocol # 1. Download the full public mirror (works, files, AI analyses & record chain) and verify python3 eksmu_verify.py pull https://eksmu.com ./mirror # 2. Re-run the full cryptographic check offline at any time python3 eksmu_verify.py verify ./mirror
If you downloaded a single work’s export bundle or an OpenTimestamps proof (.ots) from a work page, you can pass it to the same script or to the official OpenTimestamps client for independent verification.
Open endpoints anyone can read directly
- Site-wide record chain:Returns all public chain entries in sequence order, the current chain head digest, and all external timestamp anchors./api/chain
- Full public mirror:Exports all public works, version history, discussions, AI analyses, evidence and the record chain for offline archiving or independent rebuilding./api/mirror
- Per-entry chain proofs and .ots files:The “Time evidence” section on every work page offers the chain proof JSON and raw OpenTimestamps binary proof for that version.
Honest scope: what these tools prove, and what they do not
- Proves existence by a point in time and integrity:The hash chain and Bitcoin block anchor prove that a specific piece of content existed in those exact bytes before a given block time and has not been silently altered since.
- Does not prove academic correctness or priority of discovery:A cryptographic timestamp only proves when text was submitted and made public; it does not prove a derivation is sound, nor does it rule out earlier independent work elsewhere.
- Protects both authors and critics:Public AI analysis reports and author or reader responses to findings are recorded publicly as well, preventing unfavorable critiques from being erased after the fact.
